2013 marks the 34th installment of Riverfest Little Rock, set to take place Memorial Day Weekend May 24-26, 2013 in Little Rock, Arkansas! It is a visual arts and popular music festival.
2012 performers included Snoop Dogg, Lynynrd Skynyrd and Third Eye Blind. Stay alert for performer updates and ticket availability. With many visual artists,food vendors a 5k run/walk and of course the river to go along with the stellar music lineup it is sure to be fun for the whole family. With the festival on the banks of the Arkansas River, there is plenty of space for the tens of thousands of people to comfortably enjoy the many attractions this festival offers.

The Big Jingle Jubilee Holiday Parade is one of the most famous annual attractions of the city of Little Rock in Arkansas. The parade is held every year on the first Saturday of December and is one of the most vibrant and colorful events in the city’s annual calendar. The Big Jingle Parade features various types of creative and colorful decorated floats, costumed characters, competitions, classic cars, horses and much more. The floats and marching school bands also compete for cash prizes as well.
The Christmas-themed parade sees participation by a variety of community organizations such as the Arkansas Warriors Spears Dance Team, Diamond Edge Figure Skating Club and many others including even some animals from the Little Rock Zoo. An official lighting ceremony and spectacular fireworks display is held at the end of the parade in the evening at State Capitol. The parade is open for free participation by the public and attracts huge crowds.
The annual parade is a fun event for families and a wonderful occasion to celebrate the holiday season. This exciting event should not be missed by any visitors to the city around that time of the year.

Little Rock Marathon
On March 3, 2013 the Little Rock Marathon will take place in Little Rock Arkansas. The sponsors of the event are the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, KARK CHANNEL 4 and Baptist Health. The community of Little Rock is hoping that the economic impact from the event will be the same or more than it was last year.
In 2012 the community made $4.58 million from the event and more than 2,400 hotel rooms were filled. Registration for the marathon is now open and there is also a new registration transfer policy and the registration cap has been increased to 2,750 participants in the marathon, 4,850 in the half marathon and 1,300 in the 10K. The registration has also been increased in the 5K fun run/walk to 1,400 and 1,900 for the little rockers. The registration fees for the events at the marathon range from $25.00 to $110.00.
For those interested the Little Rock Marathon is offering a free training program. There are two different programs, Part A and Part B. Training for Part A began on August 6, 2012 for Marathon Build Up and on August 20, 2012 for Half Marathon Build Up. Part B starts on September 17, 2012 for Official Marathon Training and on October 22, 2012 for Half Marathon Schedule.
Participating in any of the Little Rock Marathon events is a great way to exercise. It is also a great idea to utilize the training that the sponsors of the event are offering; this will help the participants to be ready for their even of choice. Another reason to participate in this marathon is that it will help the community financially.

The Arkansas Literary Festival in Little Rock, Arkansas is an annual gathering of lovers of literature, be it famous writers, aspiring authors, or people who just like to enjoy a good book. This festival takes place every year in April, with this coming year’s festival taking place from April 18th to April 21th, 2013.
Once just a humble gathering, this festival has expanded tremendously and now includes over 95 presenters hailing from all over the nation. During the course of the four day festival, visitors can participate in a variety of different events. These events include workshops in which everyday people can learn how to hone their writing skills, author sessions in which notable authors share memorable stories and answer questions about their works, and panels in which groups of emerging authors give valuable advice on how to break into the industry.
The Arkansas Literary Festival is a wonderful way to get involved in literature, talk to experienced writers, and just have fun. With four days available, participants have plenty of time to visit all the exhibits and explore every nook and cranny of the festival.

Boo at the Zoo 2012
Boo at the Zoo is fun for the entire family.
Freaky fun and spooky animals are lurking at every term all over the park. Live music and food on the weekend will keep the parents entertained. Kids will be fascinated by all the animals and the keepers’ extensive knowledge. Live musical groups will keep things lively on the Elephant Stage and free magic shows for the kids start around 6:30pm. Haunted houses, safe trick or treating and of course Frankenstein’s Dance Party will turn the fun up to the next level.

The Arkansas State Fair
The Arkansas State Fair promises to offer a great time to all this October. The entertainment and competition lineup for this year’s fair has something for everyone—concerts, beauty pageants, craft competitions, rodeo, livestock show, and traditional carnival rides and entertainment to name just a few.
Held in Little Rock every year on the state fairground complex, the Arkansas State Fair will run from October 12 to October 20. The livestock show serves as the centerpiece for the Arkansas State Fair. Competition covers the entire agriculture industry—cattle, swine, rabbits, and even poultry. Competition is the name of the game at the fair. Beauty and talent competitions include all ages from little girls to married women. For those who excel at baking or a craft competitions abound—most sponsored by national companies
About 450,000 people enjoyed the Arkansas State Fair in 2011 and this year promises at least as many people as last year. With so much good food, lively competition, and entertainment to be had at one location, residents and visitors alike just don’t want to miss the fair this year. It is one of those rare events where mom and dad really can bring the whole family!

The Big Dam Bridge 100

The Big Dam Bridge 100, also known as the BDB100, is the largest cycling race that takes place in Arkansas. The course takes cyclists through downtown Little Rock, North Little Rock as well as across the main attraction: the Big Dam Bridge.
Cyclists ages 12 and up are encouraged to sign up. There are five different distances that can be completed so cyclists of all levels can join, from beginners who just learned how to bike, to those so experienced they can bike in their sleep. The distances range from an easy 15 mile cruise to a challenging, yet satisfying 100 miles. Children must have the consent of a parent or guardian in order to participate in the tour. For those wishing to participate, online registration closes at 8:00 pm central time on September 26th, 2012. The actual race starts takes place on September 29th, 2012.
This event is a great way to get active, have fun, and make new friends. Because of the varying levels of difficulty, this tour puts no pressure on those just starting to get into the habit of exercising and is a wonderful way to dive into the sport.

All participants have the direct ability to help out themselves or friends and family members and everyone runs in the name of health and support. Anyone can participate and support the fight against breast cancer!
This amazing, inspiring race takes place in Downtown Little Rock, Arkansas this October 20, 2012 at 8 in the morning at the intersection of Broadway and 2nd street. All funds raised by the 19th Annual Komen Arkansas Race for the Cure will go treatment programs, education, research and screening programs. Race participants will make a big loop across Broadway Bridge, loop back around Main Street Bridge and then finish the race blocks away near the Old State House. Look out for the Pasta Party, the Pink Duck Walk, the Race/Space Boutique and various events for kids of all ages and high school students.
The 19th Annual Komen Arkansas Race for the Cure is extremely popular and has had amazing results in the past supporting their community. 75% of all the funds raised actually are maintained within the Arkansas community to support breast cancer programs and another 25% is donated to the Komen national research drive. Current sponsors include Ford, American Airlines, NewBalance and Yoplait, among many other national and regional sponsors!

The Design Zone Exhbit at the Museum of Discovery in Little Rock, Arkansas – Hands-On Technological Insanity!! The Museum of Discovery in Little Rock, Arkansas has an absolutely stunning new exhibition entitled Design Zone where kids and adults alike can really let loose and discover some of the greatest, funkiest technological stuff they have always wanted to really get their hands on.
The exhibition opened on August 11 of 2012 and is called Design Zone. Design Zone is exclusively at the Museum of Discovery in Little Rock Arkansas through the Arkansas Discovery Network, which is a consortium of museums run statewide. This consortium is also funded through the Donald W. Reynolds foundation and will be open to the public until December 2, 2012.
The exposition is open Tuesday through Saturday 9 am – 5 pm and is also open on Sunday 1 pm – 5 pm and is officially closed on Mondays. Admission is $10 for the general public and children 12 and under and seniors 60 and older have an $8 admission fee.
The Design Zone exhibit is absolutely fabulous, to put it simply – technologically insane! It is an extremely interactive exhibit that allows participants to get hands on with such real world questions and situations as these – How are video games created and programmed? How to get the biggest shocks and screams out of roller coasters and thrill rides? How to create music, scientifically, to ensure that people will dance to it. This exhibit reveals incredible trade secrets from techies and mathematicians directly to you – about how everything works and why. The exhibit has been extremely popular already and has certainly been highly anticipated even though its only just completing its full day open.
